Sup Travellers?! I've got some sad news for you coming out of Virginia. According to the NY Daily News, 16 year old Cameron Gallagher collapsed a few yards after the finish line at Virginia Beach’s Shamrock Half Marathon on Sunday. The cause of her death is uncertain but many believe that she got a cardiac arrest.

A little while after running the 13.1 mile race the teen fell to the ground at about 9.a.m. She was rushed to a local hospital but doctors were unable to revive her heartbeat. She died at 11.a.m.

Cameron was a sophomore at Douglas Freeman High School. She was an active teen who won awards for competitive swimming. She had trained for the half marathon for nine weeks with her best friend Abby Donelson. The pair completed Sunday’s race side-by-side. Cameron’s parents said their daughter looked excited at mile three. But by mile 10, she was noticeably tired.

When she crossed the finish line after 2 hours and 19 minutes, Cameron was all smiles. But 50 yards later, her health began to deteriorate.

"I went to hug her," Donelson says. "We were walking away with our arms around each other and she said like 'I'm going to pass out.' And then she just kind of went down."

Cameron's family are now coming to terms with the sudden death of their daughter who's life was cut short on Sunday.

“Grace and I were given a gift to be with her during her accomplishment and we were with her in end,” David Gallagher, Cameron's father, said in a statement. “Please use Cameron’s story as an inspiration to set goals, overcome obstacles and fight the good fight. She did that every day."

Before her death, Cameron had been organizing a 5K to promote awareness about suicide. Friends say that the teen’s “Speaking Up 5K” will continue in Cameron’s memory.

I would really like to know how a fit 16 year old could die of a cardiac arrest after running a half marathon. I usually associate cardiac arrests with unhealthy people so it's kind of baffling to me. I'm no heart specialist but running should make the heart stronger NOT WEAKER!!! I would REALLY REALLY like to know how something like that happens because I'd hate to be running and just fall to the ground and die. This story is heartbreaking. My name is Trinikid and you've just been informed.
