Rutgers University Has An Entire Course On Beyonce.

Sup Travellers?! If you ever had trouble understanding Beyonce then "y'all gon learn today" [Jay Z Voice]. Rutgers University in New Jersey is apparently offering a full on course about Beyonce. When I heard that I was like WTH [What the Hell Halo]. The exact name of the course is "Politicizing Beyonce" and the class is led by doctoral student and lecturer Kevin Allred in the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies. “This isn’t a course about Beyoncé’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend,” Allred told the university’s online news site.

Allred said the class isn’t specifically about Bey’s career. Instead, course material examines gender, sexuality and racial politics through the lens of Queen B’s standing in American pop culture. The course also examines music videos and songs but here is an official description of the course according to Rutger University's website: “Course topics include the extent of Beyoncé’s control over her own aesthetic, whether her often half-naked body is empowered or stereotypical, and her more racy performances as her alter ego, ‘Sasha Fierce.’ In-class discussions often lead to other vocalists, including Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Lady Gaga, and contemporary musicians who embrace the soul singing tradition like Adele and the late Amy Winehouse.”

Even though this sounds kind of ridiculous I think that the course might actually be really interesting. I never did the course but there are so many issues that can be brought out when talking about Beyonce. I would definitely love to sit and talk about Beyonce but a classroom setting may not be the best place to do that. Twitter and Facebook already got enough Beyonce hashtags as is. Anyway, my name is Trinikid and you've just been informed.
