BOX OFFICE: How Much Money Did Iron Man 3 Make/Gross On Its Opening Day?

Sup Travellers?! The most anticipated movie of the year is out and the box office figures show that it was indeed a favorite among movie goers. No one was really surprised that Iron Man 3 dominated the domestic box office figures because who didn't want to see Iron Man 3?

Anyway, Iron Man 3 earned $68.3 million on its first day of national domestic release which included its Thursday night advance showings of $15.6 million. The film didn't really break any records in the US so far so Iron Man 3 didn't over perform but $68.3 million is still a lot of money to feel proud about.

Iron Man 3 did outperform Iron Man 2 by a hefty amount though. Iron Man 2 earned $51.2 million on its opening day in 2010. However, Iron Man 3 didn't beat the Avengers which earned $80.8 million in 2012. But that was expected.

The current projection for Iron Man 3's opening weekend is $169 million – though that number has shifted continuously for the past 24 hours. A couple of million in either direction would not be enough to put the film past The Avengers’ record of $207.4 million, of course – though anything over $169.1 million would replace Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 as the second-highest debut weekend of all time at the domestic box office.

So by Sunday we'll know if Iron Man 3 outperforms Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Anyway, my name is Trinikid and you've just been informed.
