INFORMATION BULLETIN # 6

BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE ASSOCIATED WITH THE ACTIVE TROPICAL WAVE MOVING SLOWLY ACROSS THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN ISLANDS

The area of disturbed weather associated with an active Tropical Wave is currently making its way across the Eastern Caribbean Islands. The majority of rainfall activity is located to the east of the center of this system which is near Dominica.

Investigations by the hurricane hunter aircraft have indicated that the system has not developed into a tropical cyclone at this time. Its movement is towards the northwest near 25km/hr. Environmental conditions will favour further development as it enters in the Caribbean Sea.

Presently, Trinidad and Tobago is being affected by the presence of this system which is producing moderate, at times heavy, showers with occasional thundershowers, some of which have reportedly been intense. Similar conditions could be experienced into evening/night.

Rainfall accumulations of between 30 – 50 millimeters or even greater in some locations are anticipated from this rainfall event. Gusty winds in excess of 50km/hr will accompany heavy showers/thundershowers. Landslips/landslides are likely along slopes of the northern range. Rivers of moderate carrying capacities may become inundated. Sea conditions may become turbulent in heavy showers/thundershowers.

Citizens are advised to be vigilant and cautious given forecast weather conditions. Be alert to any electrical discharges from thunderclouds and adopt measures which would preserve life and property.

WE STRONGLY UNDERSCORE THAT TRINIDAD & TOBAGO IS NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING AT THIS TIME.

The Trinidad & Tobago Meteorological Service is closely monitoring weather conditions and will issue another bulletin at 6:00am tomorrow morning or sooner if the situation warrants.
