Expert Fears Ebola Could Mutate To Become Airborne.

Sup Travellers?! I've been hearing about the Ebola outbreak a lot lately but even though it's deadly I haven't really been fearful of it. The Ebola virus isn't something that you just wake up in the morning with and if you do it's probably because you haven't been educating yourself about how it spreads.

However, shit is about to get serious!!!! With the outbreak spiraling out of control in West Africa some scientists are concerned that the virus could mutate to become an airborne disease, greatly increasing its potential for contagion.

If that happens then just breathing can cause you to become infected by the Ebola virus. Now if that doesn't make you want to shit your pants then I don't know what will.

According to reports from CNN a leading American scientist has revealed that some virologists fear that what we have seen so far may be just the beginning of a far greater threat.

Michael Osterholm, the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, disclosed that those experts are reluctant to discuss their concerns publicly for fear of creating panic.

Writing for the New York Times, Osterholm said: “The second possibility is one that virologists are loath to discuss openly but are definitely considering in private: that an Ebola virus could mutate to become transmissible through the air.”

The United States, Britain, China and Cuba are among those countries who have already committed medical and support teams to battle the deadly disease, while the United Nations is calling for US$1 billion to end the outbreak.

As of right now, the disease is only transmitted through contact with bodily fluids, including sweat, of an infected person, dead or alive.

And if the virus is almost uncontrollable now, killing as much as 2500 people in West Africa can you imagine what will happen if it mutates to become airborne? We might see a pandemic worse than Europe's 1346 Black Death which killed an estimated 75 to 200 million people.

I really hope that history does not repeat itself. Anyway, my name is Trinikid and you've just been informed.
