Trinikid's Top 10 Best Soca Songs For Carnival 2014.

Before I start this list I just want to let everyone know that the opinions stated in this list are that of the writer MINES and not yours. So if you don't agree with my opinions just reread the first line and everything will be alright. With that being said, let's get into the list shall we?

10. Destra Garcia - Mash Up

Destra is without a doubt one of the all time best Soca stars on the planet [Notice I said ONE OF]. She hasn't reached the point of being the best and I don't think that that's going to be happening anytime soon. It's not like if she's getting any younger. Destra is, however, still relatively young and probably has a long time again in the music industry of Trinidad and Tobago. Her contributions to the industry has been immense and she has definitely paved the way for a lot of the new Soca stars. But at the rate she's going now I think I can safely say that her best days are behind her. Her new releases this Carnival are definitely crowd pleasers but they aren't the type of songs that can last a lifetime like her 2005 single Fly. My favorite song from her this season is Mash up. I think it's a good song but the music video was...WEIRD. I can't pinpoint what about the video that turned me off but something about it didn't tickle my fancy.

9. Iwer George - Mama Oh

THE BIG MAN HIMSELF!!! How can you talk about Soca and not talk about Iwer George? He's no Super Blue but he's one of the old men in the business who can still make shitloads of money for the Carnival doing things other than selling boat rides. One of his latest songs Mama Oh is actually getting a lot of radio play unlike his super HORRIBLE song Africans. Have you heard that song? It's so horrible that I had to listen to it over and over just to make sure that the African drums in my ears were working properly. IT'S NOT WORKING GOOD ANYMORE!!!

8. Patrice Roberts- Doh Rough Me Up.

8th place was a tough call. It was either Erphaan Alves and Blaxx's Contagious or Patrice Roberts' Doh Rough Meh Up. After eating some fried eggs, drinking a cup of tea and playing a couple games of League Of Legends I finally decided that Patrice Roberts was perfect for number 8. I'm not a big fan of Patrice Roberts. I just really like her new bumper song.

7.  Fay Ann Lyons- Catch Me.

Ahh yesss Fay Ann Lyons, the queen of the Assylum family. Besides her banging body you can't help but love some of her music [Notice I said SOME LOL]. Fay Ann has some really great songs but they are usually topped by really shitty songs. Her two latest songs that caught my attention were Catch Me and Done D Party. Catch Me caught my attention. [see what I did there?] It caught my attention because it was a really nice song and Done D Party caught my attention because it was filth. Two extremes!! I really love her song Catch Me but the only thing that turned me off was the fact that it didn't really sound Soca. It sounded a bit different but I assume it's just Fay Ann's way of merging techno and Soca. It's a great song but it lacks a lot of the Soca elements. That could either be a good thing or a bad thing. Not sure.

6. Kerwin Du Bois - Forget About It.

Kerwin Du Bois was always a good Soca artiste but this year he has elevated from good to GREAT!! Most of his releases for the 2014 Carnival season have become instant hits. I would be so angry if he fails to win anything this year. Compared to the releases of other Soca stars Kerwin Du Bois deserves all the trophies....Well not all, but most of it. That's just my opinion though. One of his new releases is Forget about it. It's not his best release but it's definitely one of the best for the year.

5. Mr. Killa - Rolly Polly.

We have reached the top 5 and SHIT JUST GOT SERIOUS!!! To start off the top 5 let's talk about Mr. Killa's song Rolly Polly. It's probably one of the most played songs this carnival. It's always on the radio and you just can't escape it. I have never heard of Mr. Killa before though. Who the hell is he? The only thing I know about him is that he really loves ROLLY POLLIES!!!

4. Machel Montano - Happiest Man Alive.

Machel Montano's reign in the Soca world has been unprecedented. You can't help but respect him AS AN ARTISTE but as a person it's a totally different ball game game of cricket. Let's not talk about Machel Montano as a person right now. This list is all about the artiste. Bunji Garlin has been given Machel some heat lately but Machel is still the king of Soca in my books. Bunji is great but when it comes to consistency, there is no touching Machel. He brings out HIT AFTER HIT AFTER HIT. 2011, 2012 and 2013 were just flooded with Machel hits. Mr. Fete, The Fog, Float, Advantage, Possessed, Indian Gyal and Represent just to name a few. I thought that 2014 would have been Machel's year of running the show again but this year he took a back seat in the Soca ride. His best song for the year is Happiest Man Alive and it's a good song but not the best for the year.

3. Bunji Garlin - Redlight District

Mister Differentology himself!!! That one song propelled Bunji Garlin over the boundary for 6. Bunji has been in the business of Soca for a long while and always made good songs but to me he was just a one hit wonder. I predicted that he would have failed this year and the radio would have just played Differentology this year but when he released Redlight District I discovered that my prediction was horribly wrong. Redlight District is one of the best songs that has been released this Carnival.

2. Bunji Garlin - Truck On The Road.

This is Bunji's second hit on this list and it's another one that made me discover how wrong my prediction was. Bunji has proven that he's without a doubt one of the all time best. STEP ASIDE MACHEL!!! There's going to be a new Marshall in town [See what I did there?]

1. Kerwin Du Bois - Too Real.

THAT BUMPER IS TOO REAL, IT DANGEROUS!!! OHHH GAWWD!!! How can you not love this song? This is the best song for the year and I don't care what you think. This song has to win it ALL!!! I don't want to hear nothing about Super Blue or Machel Montano. This song TAKE THE CAKE!!!! Anyway, my name is Trinikid and you've just been informed.
