Sup Travellers?! If you've ever been to the University of Mississippi then there is chance that you stepped on a couple dead bodies without even knowing while you were there. Because according to reports from USA Today, there was over 1000 bodies buried beneath the campus.

While surveying land for a new parking lot at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, officials discovered 1000 bodies thought to have been patients at the old Mississippi State Lunatic Asylum. This is not only a very horrific discovery but also a financially depleting one. The cost of relocating the bodies goes way beyond the budget that the University had set to build the parking lot. The cost to relocate the bodies is an astounding $3 million which equates to $3000 per body.

"We can't afford that," Dr. James Keeton, dean of the medical school, said.

The construction of the parking lot will most likely be relocated but experts believe that there could be more bodies buried throughout the school. It is believed that the graves belonged to tuberculosis patients, former slaves, or possibly even people who died during the Civil War. The Mississippi State Lunatic Asylum opened in 1855 and closed in 1935, when it moved to its present location at Whitfield.

It's amazing that even though the bodies are hundreds of years old the people still respect it enough to leave them in their graves. Taking out the bodies and burning them would have been a cheaper option but the school still considers the $3 million relocation as the only option. If that's not respect for the dead then I don't know what is. Anyway, my name is Trinikid and you've just been informed.
