Bunji Garlin Wins Best International Performance At The 2013 Soul Train Awards.

Sup Travellers?! If you ever wanted to know who would have been the person responsible for pioneering Soca music to a larger international audience, NOW YOU KNOW!! That person is The Viking Bunji Garlin and his hit song, Differentology is his sailing ship. Just a couple days ago, Differentology got airplay on Grey's Anatomy making it ONE OF the all time most popular Soca songs ever. But things didn't stop there.

The 2013 Soul Train Awards aired on CENTRIC and BET on Sunday, December 1st. The winners of the night included big names like Kendrick Lamar, Ashanti, Janelle Monae, Robin Thicke and Miguel just to name a few [You can see all the winners here]. Among all the winners, one name stood out to me. Bunji Garlin. Bunji took home the award for best international performance.  He won over Machel Montano, Emeli Sande, P-Square and Iyana. Bunji's award was not aired on television but was updated on BET's website.

Machel Montano sent some love to Bunji on Twitter saying, “Massive congratulations to @BunjiGarlin on copping the Soul Train award tonight! Well deserved!!! Big Respect to @Sheriffmumbles!!! Take soca to the world.”

Kes The Band later posted, “The dawn of a new era! Let’s continue to inspire a generation to dream beyond the so called limits and be GREAT. Congrats again to @BunjiGarlin and to the @MachelMontanoHD camp for the nomination. One mission- One Trinidad and Tobago."

I really love the fact that Bunji won over Emeli Sande. I really do. Emeli Sande is one of the biggest artistes from the UK. Sande recently broke The Beatles' long-standing record for the most consecutive weeks spent in the top 10 of the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart. Sande's Our Version of Events went on to become the bestselling album of 2012 in the U.K. with over 1.82 million. With that being said. Bunji Garlin won over that woman. Just think about that. I'm not really sure how he won over Emeli Sande, but I don't care, WINNING IS WINNING!! That in itself calls for a celebration. Big up to Bunji and I hope to see more big things from The Viking in the near future. My name is Trinikid and you've just been informed.
