TRINIDAD: Trini Scholar Killed During Al-Queda Terrorist Attack In Nairobi.

Sup Travellers?! Yesterday I wrote an article about the terrorist attacks that plagued an upscale mall in Nairobi, Kenya on Saturday [You can read that article here.]. A couple foreigners were injured and also died along with the Kenyan nationals. I didn't think that I had to follow up on this story much after writing about it yesterday but apparently I have to. A Trinidad national died in the whole ruckus in Kenya on Saturday and since i'm from Trinidad it made the whole situation a bit closer to home.

According to a report from the Trinidad Express, Trinidad national Ravindra Ramrattan was among several people killed in a terrorist attack and siege at a Kenyan shopping mall that entered its third day today. Ramrattan was a scholar and was awarded the Presidents Medal Gold in 2002 [11 years ago]. He was originally from Monroe Road, Cunipia and attended Presentation College, Chaguanas where he attained distinctions in mathematics, chemistry, physics and general paper at the Advanced Level examinations [NOW THAT'S A GENIUS!!]

The Trini scholar was working in Nairobi Kenya as a research economist and was unfortunately at the mall when the terrorist attack occurred. Ramrattan's parents, Bisnath and Parbatie Ramrattan, said that their son's friends called them on Saturday and told them about the attack. They said that they were able to escape the siege but they were unable to find Ramrattan afterwards. He was later declared dead. A service at the Buddhists temple in Nairobi is being held in memory of the fallen Ramrattan.

My condolences go out to all that were affected by Ramrattan's tragic death. I don't know how old he was but he was definitely young and still had a lot more to give to the world. It's so sad that he had to die so soon. Let's just hope and pray that no more innocent lives are lost in the terrorist attack. RIP! The siege entered its third day today. My name is Trinikid and you've just been informed.
