Greetings Travellers!! Most people around the world don't know squat about Digicel but people from the Caribbean are very familiar with the brand. So is it much of a surprise to hear that Digicel is launching its very  own smartphone? Well it didn't surprise me actually, it was just a matter of time if you ask me. Digicel has already launched phone brands already. I don't know if you guys remember the Coral phones? Well that's Digicel's.

According to reports from the Jamaican Gleaner, next month, Digicel will launch their own Android smartphone, the Digicel DL600, in an apparent attempt to grow and monetize Internet usage. The phone will obviously not be developed locally or regionally but by Alcatel.

The DL600 will sell for a little less than $100 US so it is very affordable for the average buyer. "The DL600 smartphone will be added to our current distribution of handsets across our retail channels in each market," Finn said.

The DL600 will retail in all 31 markets in which Digicel operates, which includes Trinidad and Tobago. "The Digicel smartphone DL600 marries a great and fully loaded Android handset with a great price. It will retail for under US$100 across all our markets making it the most accessible smartphone around," he said.

"It's all about Digicel making the 4G experience affordable and accessible to all with the launch of this new and affordable Android smartphone," said Finn.

"To ensure that as many people have access to the Digicel 4G experience using the DL600, the handset will be available to both prepaid and postpaid customers in all 31 markets," he said.

The smartphone DL600 features a large 3.5 inch display, the latest version of the popular Android OS (Jellybean 4.1), and a 1Ghz processor. The phone is 4G capable with speeds of 7.2 Mbps.

Finn said the phone is ideally suited to the youth market, who want to be connected via messaging, social media, and other lifestyle and information apps.

I will buy one, there is no question about it. I just hope that Digicel doesn't disappoint by making a crappy phone but for less than $100 US what will you expect...hmmmm. Anyway, it doesn't change the fact that my name is Trinikid and you've just been informed.
