Laventille is a wonderful community. I know a lot of people from Laventille that managed to do big things in this life despite the stigma attached to them. However one does not simply deny the fact that it is the still the murder capital Trinidad and Tobago in terms of statistics. According to the Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams, 26 percent of the murders in Trinidad and Tobago for the year thus far, have occurred within the community of Laventille and its environs. He said so at yesterday’s weekly media, briefing at the Police Administration Building, in Port-of-Spain.

Williams told the media that for the year so far, the Police Service has recorded 405 homicides, 367 of which were murders.

Approximately 26 percent of these murders occurred in Laventille and its surrounding communities. We will like to focus on this geographical space. Our vision is for citizens to walk every part of TT free from any form of interference and crime,” said Williams.

He also stated that the police service aspires to see a drop in crime in the year 2013, “We aspire to have a continuous impact on crime and realise a larger drop in crime in 2013.
