For any normal film, $9 million on its opening day is usually good but for a $200 million dollar film starring some big names like Rihanna and Taylor Kitsch, that would be a disappointing amount. The highly anticipated summer blockbuster Battleship grossed $9 million dollars on Friday placing second to Marvel's The Avengers. Battleship is estimated to cruise towards $26 million for the weekend's box office.

Is the curse of Taylor Kitsch going to strike again for the year 2012. Taylor Kitsch's first film of the year, John Carter, failed miserably in the box office causing Disney to suffer a loss and to lose an executive. Will another Taylor Kitsch film flop in the box office? Well according to the statistics Battleship has already made $226.8 million in international theaters so it easily surpassed its production cost, but it isn't doing to well in the United States. What does this mean for Taylor Kitsch and his career. He may end up having to act in shows like NCIS and Burn Notice to make money "Hmmmmm That wouldn't be that bad actually."

This flop may not bode well with Universal Studios as they have a record of good movies which they may not want to see end. However it may not necessarily mean that Battleship is a bad movie, it may just mean that the hype right now is for The Avengers and nothing else. Because the other films failed as well. So is The Avengers the real battle for Battleship?

its so funny when an author is trying to bash someone in a movie and says that it has made profit because of its overseas boxoffice. A movie needs to have over twice it's budget and marketing to make a profit. If anything, this movie will loose at least 100 million.

  2. Well I strongly believed that $200 million was the total spent on the film, but according to you, i'm wrong. So I changed it :)

Well I believe they should have waited until the hype from the avengers went down to release the movie it was just a bad timing

Curse of Taylor kitsch? You can't blame him....Its not his fault that Disney decided to release a movie that looks like a starwars knock off....and then battleship looks like a transformer knock off....both movies were not appealing at all. He is a great actor and just bad luck to be in such poorly promoted films films...that probably would of done good if they were released at a different date.
